Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and the operator of Helmsman ("we", "us"). They cover your use of the helmsman.sh website (the "Site"), the private beta waitlist, and any access we grant you to the Helmsman macOS app (the "App"). By using the Site or the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use them. Joining the waitlist itself is governed by our Privacy Policy, not these Terms, so you are not bound by Terms you have not been shown.

Who can use Helmsman

You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, and able to enter a binding agreement. When you join the waitlist or request access, give accurate information and use an email address that is yours.

The private beta

Helmsman is currently invite-only. Access is granted at our discretion, and we may decline, suspend, or revoke access at any time. Beta software is a work in progress: it may be incomplete, change without notice, contain bugs, or be discontinued, and we do not guarantee that it will be available or that any session or data will be preserved. Use it on that basis.

The waitlist

Joining the waitlist means we may email you about beta access. You can ask to be removed at any time by emailing hello@helmsman.sh. Please do not submit addresses that are not yours. How we handle your email is described in our Privacy Policy.

Sign-in codes and access

When you have access, you sign in with one-time codes we email to you. Keep your email account and those codes secure, and do not share your access with others. We may rate-limit, throttle, or refuse sign-in attempts to protect the service, and we may end access that is shared or misused.

Using the App

Your use of the App is also governed by the End-User License Agreement (available on request, like these Terms, and shown before you are bound by it), which grants you a limited, revocable license to use it. Where it applies, the EULA controls for the App itself.

Your own tools, accounts, and keys

Helmsman drives software you already run, including your own coding agents, terminals, and your own model access or API keys. Your use of those tools and of any third-party service (including Anthropic) is governed by their own terms and pricing, not these Terms. You are responsible for the accounts and keys you connect and for any costs they incur, and we are not responsible for third-party services or their availability.

Acceptable use

• Do not disrupt, overload, probe, or try to break the Site, the App, or their endpoints.
• Do not use Helmsman to break the law or to infringe anyone's rights.
• Do not resell, sublicense, or share your beta access, or attempt to circumvent the invite system.
• Do not copy or redistribute the Site content, the App, or its artwork without permission.

The waitlist and auth endpoints are rate limited and protected against abuse.

Feedback

We welcome bug reports and suggestions. If you send us feedback, you allow us to use it to improve Helmsman without any obligation or payment to you, and without it being treated as your confidential information.

Payments

The private beta is free. If we introduce paid plans, the prices, billing terms, and our Refund Policy (available on request, and shown at checkout before you buy) will apply to those purchases. We will not charge you for the beta itself.

Intellectual property

The Helmsman name, the Site content, the App, and their artwork belong to us or our licensors. These Terms do not transfer any of those rights to you beyond the limited access described here and in the EULA.

No warranty

The Site, the waitlist, and the beta App are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that they will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. As beta software, the App is especially likely to change or have defects. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or business, arising out of or relating to Helmsman or these Terms. To the extent we are found liable, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us, if any, in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including your non-waivable statutory consumer rights.

Termination

We may suspend or end your access to the Site, the waitlist, or the beta at any time, including if you breach these Terms. You may stop using Helmsman at any time. The sections on intellectual property, disclaimers, liability limits, and governing law continue to apply after access ends.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have where you live.

Changes

We may update these Terms as Helmsman evolves, for example when the beta opens up or paid plans arrive. The "last updated" date above reflects the current version, and continued use after a change means you accept it.
